Rhonda Rousey hate
Is all the Rhonda Rousey hate deserved?
The very fact that Rhonda is on the cover of Ring Magazine shows the levels at which the media was set to over hype her skills. Is that her fault, no. She did buy into it however and that is her fault.
Those of us that were never on the Rhonda bandwagon weren't upset by the media hype machine, that was out of her control.
I think what most disliked about her was her ability to look others straight in the eye and call them fake and phony all the while being as two faced as they come.
Not shaking hands after a fight, all the middle fingers, ranting at weigh-ins, her choice of friends (the Diaz Brothers), not touching gloves before a fight and so on - but - on the other hand she flashed that school girl smile and wanted us all to believe that she was somehow the victim, this, this is what we despised about Rhonda.
As for being a pioneer in women's MMA, hardly. She was the one that may have finally got Dana White to throw the UFC hype machine behind her, but a pioneer?
Passing of the torch, doubtful. Rhonda's first UFC victory was just a short two years ago. This pales comparison to the passing of the torch that was the Matt Hughes vs Royce Gracie fight. The timeline between UFC 1 and that fight, thirteen years!
Rhonda Rousey got beat, plain and simple. The reasons are numerous and reminiscent of a lot of fighters before her, blame her coach, her Mom feuding with her coach, the fact that she got a boyfriend, the movies, the media, blame whatever and whomever you like.
In the end, it doesn't matter. Her loss was good for women's MMA. No longer it is the Rhonda Rousey division in the UFC, the freak of nature that Joe Rogan said some once in forever. She came and went in a short two years. She got rich playing the role and women have credability in MMA.
It's all good.
What do you guys think, does she deserve all the hate? Was she over hyped? Will she ever be the same?
