My son sqauted 255 the other day

Now that might not seem like much, but he is only 15 and weighs 150lbs. I got him started on working out in January and at that time he was struggling to do 95 lbs. Thursday I got a text at work from him telling me he just did 255 for 2 reps. I thought maybe he had his math wrong so I went and checked when I got home. Sure enough, there was 255 lbs on the squat rack.

Pretty good progress for 10 months. He just got done with football and he's pumped to be able to lift more now. Wants to bring his bench up to 225 and squat over 300 before next season starts. I'm proud of him and admire his dedication.

WTF is "sqauted"? lol It wont let me edit it either.

I'll go give him a high five now. He wants to kick my ass in Halo 3, which wont be hard at all considering I haven't played Halo since the 1st one came out.

Mike, I didn't think he would ever be into lifting. When he was younger he was more into outdoor stuff, like killing bugs and making crappy forts. That and video games. He was starting to get chubby and I think kids were teasing him in school. Then one day I heard him downstairs throwing some weights around and the rest is history. It's great for me because he keeps my lazy ass motivated. :D

THL,
That's ok, let those fuckers tease him. Pain will motivate him to improve his physique. A couple of months from now, he'll have self confidence through the roof and he'll probably kick a little ass!
Most of us started out that way!
At 48, that's what keeps me going-only 10 more years until my son becomes my training partner!

That's awesome bud! He's made some real progress over the last 10 months. Hopefully, down the road, my new one gets into some form of working out.

I know it's different for everyone depending on personality types but I can recall being somewhat down on myself in high school when I was not nearly as strong as many others in the weight room. This made me fairly passive to lifting for some time after that as I got down on myself pretty bad. So if your boy is the type who is really into lifting that bodes very well for him. He will want to continue to better his lifts and will definitely have a lot of confidence in himself. Great job and congrats to him!

I read your thread to my boy, and he is all fired up! A couple of leg extensions to warm up before he hits the squat rack!

that is incredible progress for less then one year. i have no doubt he will hit 300 squat and 225 by next year with his obvious motivation.
