Judging a meet on Saturday

These always turn out to be fun. I'm an extremely tight judge. I always tell the lifters before we start to not allow me to make the decision. Convince me they hit depth, lock their elbows and knees, etc., and I'll white light them all day long. If there's any question - while I'll try to give the benefit to the lifter - they won't get a white from me.

I've only had one guy get in my face after missing his 3rd squat attempt (602 or something) and I DQ'd and had him removed from the gym. Anyway. It's, unfortunately, going to be a small meet with just local competitors but it should be fun all the same.

Sounds like they got the right man for the job. At least this way you get to still participate with 0 chance of injury.

They can be fun if there are records being broken. And any deadlift over 700 is a blast to watch. An 800+ pull and I'm awestruck.

It was a fun meet. Really crowded and way f'ing hot. I was a bit envious and wished I had lifted. I wouldn't have won but my DL opener would have beaten the biggest pull of the day by 20 pounds. It's always nice to look at the line up and see your name at the bottom.

I have never one rep maxed anything in my life....I have no idea how much I could pull, bench or squat for one.... I used to dead 405-455 for reps.

I have always trained like a bodybuilder so its never been a concern, but reading stuff like this is peaking my interest.

SD, off hand can you remember the best #'s in three main lifts: squat, bench and deadlift? Just curious to see the numbers those local cats were putting up..tyyl,Wylie

No one squatted over 8. There was one 805 attempt red lighted and a 790 attempt red lighted. Man - a 770 squat?

No one benched over 600. 570 may have been the highest.

623 was the biggest pull of the day. He was one of my home boys.

So - from what I remember - 770, 570, 623 for a 1963 total. I think. Doesn't seem right. Sean D. has an elite total under his belt. Nope - that's right. Sorry for the confusion.

Are there weight classes? I remember doing a PLing meet in HS and I was at 149 and under. Not sure if these classes still exist.

Just off the top of your head, what are the guys at 198 doing? I want to compare it with what I lift raw and see if I'm competitive.

There was one 198er named Levi Heijl. I'll look up his numbers and post them up for you.

For a local meet, those numbers are impressive! Im curious to see how I would compare against a crowd like that in my weight class.

In the 198s there were totals of: 737.5, 590, 577.5, and 295. So, in pounds that's 1475, 1298, 1270.5, and 649. All of these guys were juniors as well - 18-23 years old.
