Basics of PowerLifting
What is powerlifting all about?
The basics of powerlifting are pretty simple. You compete in three main lifts: squat, bench and deadlift (in that order). For each lift, you are allowed to make three attempts. Once the bar is loaded, you only have 1 minute to make the attempt.
After 3 x 3 = 9 attempts, the heaviest number in each lift is added to your total. The lifter who has lifted the biggest total wins the competetion - and it better be you. In case two lifters lift the same amount of weight, the smaller lifter wins.
In many competitions or top-100 lists, the bodyweight is being converted into a calculation factor. By multiplying this factor with the weight, you can determine your points, representing the ratio of weight lifted versus the bodyweight. So if you are a small lifter, lifting a decent pile of iron, you could win a competetion on points or be high up in the rankings, making powerlifting a sport in which anyone can compete against anyone.
