I'm 1 for 3 now on DVD burns but I know what the problem is. When I put a blank DVD in my drive (Sony) and go to my computer, right click and go to properties, I am only getting 4.34 gb of blank space. Nero thinks that it is 4.7 so when it gets toward the end, you get an error that there is not enough disc space. I didn't have time to check, but I'm thinking there has to be an option to change this somewhere.

Anyone who is at home and has Nero 7, I need you to look into this ASAP. That will be your assignment for the day. No excuses for being late, as I want to start the burn again before I go to bed in the morning. :cool:

lol yep that could be it. That is what happened to me on some of the discs. problem is that 4.7 gb disc really is only around 4.4 or 4.3 i believe due to 1 gb not actually being 1000 mb's.
So we might have to use nero to burn to HD, than DVD shrink it( u can edit the start and end point) and than burn with the nero. what do u thinK?

Maybe, but only if you can't select the burn size somehow in Nero. You should be working on that now. :D

I did end up saving the ripped file though, so if I wanted to burn it, DVDShrink would work. I'd call my wife and have her try but her skills are on a similar level to ours. I don't have all night to walk her through it the wrong way. lmao

freak man i cant do shit b/c the plug in isnt working so i have 2 hold it in with my rt hand. that shit melted something i am afraid its in the laptop and not the cord

on nero, did u click automatic fit 2 disc?

I think it's time to take the old girl to the computer repair shop before you fry it for good. Don't you have a battery for it that you could use for now?

I don't remember if I had that clicked or not???????

my battery is always in it luckily but it is dead b/c of this shit. I am going to the city tomorrow morning and getting a regular cpu hopefully

Cool. How much are you looking to speand? Dell has some good deals going now with free shipping.

Send the laptop to FTW so that hick can get back on the internet. Just make sure to warn him about the fire hazard.

OK peeps I think I know the problem...it's spmething called bitrate. You can have two movies, same size, but one has a higher bitrate. The higher bitrate can cause tyhe dvd to stop burning at the end. There's something called a bitrate calculator, where you can enter in the size of the avi file...say 700 mbs and the bitrate...say 5000 kbs/sec. The calculator will give you the bitrate you need to lower the Nero settings to in order to fit it onto a blank dvd. I'll find it for you guys.

Here's the link to the calculator...just enter in the length of the movie (time) and the audio rate (it will be listed in the properties of the movie). It will calculate the max bitrate you can use for the blank dvd. Then, just change the setting in Nero.

Very easy...seriously, a piece of cake. There's also a place to change the audio type to surround...thought someone was having an issue with that??

i havent tried yet b/c my new dvd's havent shown and i havent gotten the new cpu yet. I might try again with my laptop but afraid the plug will quit registering

Yeah. After you select your AVI that you want to burn, click the "more" button then the edit video box at the bottom of the window. Another window will pop up with 2 tabs. Click on the tab on the right. I change the burn quality to standard (near the top of the window) or standard plus (a little smaller yet) and set the audio to Dolby AC-3 (this is at the bottom of the window). Click OK and answer no to change to default. Your new video size should be just over 4 gb or it wont fit. LMK if you want me to take some screen shots.

Cool, you seem to be getting it. Thick, you can also find out the audio rate of your movie by right clicking on it, click properties, then click on summary. It will list info on it. The audio rate will be something like 92 kbs, 192...

listen man, i still have way more movies on disc. I cant help it that my laptop has turned into a friggin pyro and halted my progress. I havent been able to even try this new stuff yet. I went to last night and it started smoking again so i shut it off. I went to DM to get a lt or cpu fri but no good deals. they said come back over presidents day sale. There was one good deal but it wasnt in stock so they wanted 65 bucks to ship it and me wait a couple of weeks to receive f that
