I am from a small town but the gym I started at was the tops. the 2ed gym was 45min away and I trained there 2-3 times a week and there were some big ass guys there. then desert storm started and it was just me and this big ass doc. there lifting and he tought me much ( I learned years later that behind the front counter was always gear, you just take what you needed and put the money in the box. the owner was a part time cop so we watched the gym for him if he was working. ie 10ml of test was 10-15 dollars I wish some one would have let me know. All the other gyms I worked out at were in the big city and they were and still are the best that there is. when i started there were pro bodybuilders and wrestlers that all trained there and they helped me out a lot and even though they would not hook me up (fuckers) . I still to this day have not found many other gyms as good and I have aways been given keys so I can train after hours etc.

I am like m-freak I have multiple gyms, Golds and in my area I have 4 locations all in the same distance, and planet fitness 8 locations, I was at the boca athletic club as well but left it as I got pissed off at some person telling everyone i was taking beens = (JUICE). But funny as this same person 3 years later was on them and i was like your such a fuktard do not talk to me and if you see me try to hide because next time i might bitch slap you hard! :). Of course he was 22 and me 39-40 so I probably would be the guy being bitch slapped but still I had to say it to him as that was so uncool to do. Oh yeah this is about gym memberships haha:) I always have to have many options as i get board fast and the same place over and over again makes me mad depressed.

As I live in the center of the US, not much here for gyms. Only gym in town with any kind of equipment is Genesis health club. Dumbells up to 125, not too bad. Just wish it was open 24-7. Gym is only 5 mins from the house tho, always good.:D

swede my local golds became a planet fitness, as soon as they switched I got the rest of my money back and luckily the gym I am at now was just opnening...

When I lived in FL I was told by every one (don't go to the SE end of florida, I would get taken advantage of and I would fall into the party mode) So I stayed away from there AK I do have friends from that area and there are some good places to train and thats one place in the US that still hard core. Up where I am from 15years ago there were a lot of pros that trained here. the big differnce is up in the mid west guys will bulk up more and let there bodys adapt to the larger body size 3+monthes then diet down. I thought in FL people tried to stay lean to much. The gyms UP in the mid west are way better (not too many outdoor but loading dock door in summer) But the gyms are better in the midwest but they are fadding away. I compare gyms all the time all over the country .......
PS New equipment is not always better than some of the old hard core, well taken care of equipment........

I just moved to a new area so I of course had to switch up gyms from my old Gold's Gym (which I loved). Well I thought I would go to this franchise gym called Xsport. Well I went in there yest and HOLY SHIT that place was basically a mall with some weights and cardio equipment. There must have been 10 front desk people and it took me 10 min just to ask for a damn day pass. It was 3 stories tall and I lost count of TV's...but Id guess 40 of them. Had a lounge with the internet setup and cafe deli where you could sit down and eat...I MEAN WTF IS THAT??? Well it sucked imo and the EXACT opposite what I look for in a gym. So today I went to a smaller place that was alot older and less "stuff"...But guess what I got a 12 month membership upfront for 240$...It has all I need and is one big room. I think some people want a workout "facility" or "club" rather than a gym. As long as they have the basics and less uptight franchise feel, im all over it. So today I found a new gym and a new place to focus and get away!!! :D
