Vicodin and Bloat

Vicodin and Bloat

I remember this from the last time I herniated a disk. I was prescribed vicodin 10-325 and my abdomen got HUGE.! Well, I'm back on the same meds: Vicodin 10-325 and 800 mg skelaxin and my gut is getting bigger as the hours go by!! I know the hydrocodone is constipating, so I am taking a laxative that has been keeping me "regular" so it's not that.

My gut looks like I'm 7 months prego! By doing a pinch test, i can tell that the fat/bloat is behind the abdominal wall. I look like Buddah. Anyone else ever notice this when on these meds?

Thanks, TenMan

I have had Hydrocodone a few times. (Slipped a disk in my back in my 20's, crushed the tip of my finger off with a forklift few years ago)

I can only take 1 at a time tho. If I take 2, I cannot sleep - I have no idea why.

Even on just 1 (think it was 5/500) it makes me feel weird...like I'm living in the 3rd person or something. I'm watching my life go by through someone else's eyes is how I feel on that stuff. That stuff is a trip for me.

Never got any bloat on it tho - or any constipation for that matter. Killed my appetite.

have your doctor switch your meds to 10/325 percosetts, or 15 mg roxycodone. To get the roxys are your best bet no bloat from them at all, and they work better than all of them. To get them tell your doctor you cant stand the vics tell all the reasons why and also say you would rather have a pill with just codeine in it.

Common thing with narcs is bloating/constipation. Everyone reacts differently. Find one that you are comfortable with. I like Hydrocodone.

Hey-

I am now seeing a pain management doctor. He immediately wanted to take me off the vicodin and switch me to Ultram, but he couldn't because I was on an SSRI. Apparently, SSRI's and Ultram don't mix...causes too much serotonin to be kept in the system and can cause death.

Well, after I found out about that, it just gave me another reason to get off the SSRI. I weaned myself off the SSRI and the doctor wrote me a script for 50 mg Ultram...take 1 or 2 every 4 to 6 hours as needed. I decided to take 50 mg every 5 hours while awake. The Ultram is very good in controlling my pain...about 80% as good a the vicodin, but I'm sure if I upped it to 100 mg every 5 hours, it would be every bit as good as the vicodin. I'm OK at the lower dose, so I'll stay with that unless things change.

The bloat is gone, as well as, the narcotic effect of the vicodin...it's nice to actually remember things for a change. Plus, being off the SSRI, I feel much better. I was taking it for anxiety, but now that I'm off of it, I'm really not feeling any more anxiety than when I was on it...lol!!! Now, I actually have ambition and look forward to things instead of being a drone. If I feel overanxious, like air travel, I have x@nax to control the anxiety.

Don't be fooled; Pharmaceuticals are very powerful. The less you are on, the better in my book (of course, that's really only common sense).

One thing that I take for anxiety since I cannot take conventional drugs (tend to miss the mark on dosing  ) is Propranalol. Its a blood pressure med, I take that at a low dose and it works wonders for anxiety.

Oh yeah, Inderal....funny thing, people in my wife's singing group (chorus) use it to quell anxiety and excessice vibrato when doing performances.
