torn bicep tendon!

Well god damn, 6:30 am, doing pretty light weight curls, I hear a snap/pop in the right bicep area. Knew it immediately...went to the ER and got it confirmed. Have an appoinment on tuesday for surgery. It was kind of funny because when I rolled up my sleeve to show the dr., he responded "Jesus!" LOL, how's that for bed side manner?

Worst part was the damn sound it made...messed up because even after it heals, I'll always be paranoid it will happen again I think. It's my right arm and I drive a standard...this will be interesting;)

oh man yeah it will always be on your mind just a bit. Will be interesting driving that stick shift. I had fun driving the car with a broken right leg lol! braking was an adventure pushing in with left foot

This really sucks. What % of max were you working at? were you doing normal sets? Had you done a lot of other exercises prior to the injury or was it torn? Give me as much detail as possible please even including possible strains to the area the last week or two

Don't worry, it should work fine, unless you tore the shit clear off the bone.

Actually, I just got off the phone with an orthopaedic I was referred to. I have to go in on Tuesday morning. Might be too late, though, since it's been a month. As long as I can make the pain in the forearm go away, then it's no biggie. Sure, I'm kind of irritated with my newly shaped bicep, which I had originally thought I would like(but I have enough deformities already), but as long as I can function, I don't care.

I'm only talking to this guy because a nice doctor I met suggested that I do so. He says that I won't have as much strength, so I decided to call him. If it interferes with my takedown ability, I'll get angry.

Shit, that sucks swede. :(

Just make sure you do what the PT tells you and it should heal fine, even if it means jerking off with your other hand for a few months. It can be done, trust me. :D

Thick, I was actually at work when it happened. To make a short story long, a few years ago, I got some money set a side in the work budget to put some w/o equiptment in one of the spare rooms. A pretty nice bench press, a universal machine for lats, shoulders, dips, etc, and some dumbells. When a resident shows an interest in w/o, I go in and show them how to use the equipment and come up with a w/o program for them.

This am, I was showing a kid some exercises...some simple chest routines and a bicep w/o. I had only been w/o for about 20 minutes. Pretty light w.o when I'm w/o with them. A few sets of simple dumbell curls (standing). To warm up, I started with a set of 20 lb's, then 30 lb's, then was doing 40 lb's when I heard a snap in the bicep area and felt the tendon move up into the upper bicep area. Wasn't going heavy at all, warmed up, no pain at any point right before...a week before, etc. Fucker just snapped...I think it was bound to happen at some point I guess.

The things completely torn...the tendon is up in the upper bicep area. Surgery next wednesday. I met with the surgeon today and was damn impressed with him. He took the time to explain exactly what he was going to do...he's one of the best around so it put my mind at ease a lot. He's going to open the arm up about 6-8 inches, drill a few holes in the bone, and attach the tendon with a few pins. Recovery will take at least 10 weeks before I can lift any weight with it:(

I'll tell you, I think Toyoda had a thread about health insurance and costs. Because it happened at work, it will be workers comp and if I need to take time off, the company pays for short term disability so bills should be covered and time off will be paid for. When I was seeing the docs and having tests done, I was thinking how lucky I was to have insurance if something like this ever happened and workers comp couldn;t be used.

So my koi fish on my sleeve will have a big scar through it unfortunately. There was a fucking hoy nurse (intraining) who came into the room towards the end...absolutely beautiful. The doc was showing her how to feel the area and tell a difference in the arms. I couldn't resist...she was touching my good arm and I let out a "Ahhh, shit that hurts" She whipped her hand away and started saying sorry. I said "Sorry, juuust kidding, that's my good arm!".

Long post, but I'm wide awake so deal with it;)

I wasn't taking anything. I'm sure if I told the dr about prior aas usage, he'd say they caused a weaker tendon. Truth is, I never go nuts with aas...test at most 500 mg's, tren at very low dosages, maybe 200-250 a week.

I'm going to take a few weeks extra off, use up some of the short term disability I have. Even in a sling, I'll enjoy the time off!
