the importance of flys.

i got into a somewhat heated discussion with someone yesterday. he said that pec flys and straightbar bench are the most overrated workouts in the gym. i had a difference of opinion. i told him that bench should be incorporated into a chest workout, not to max out... but it's good to have part of your arsenal.

then we got into the discussion of flys. he said they are useless. i said that they most certainly are not if for anything to isolate the pectoral muscle as part of a normal chest workout.

i would like some opinions and/or data on this topic from you guys.

I absolutely agree with you , flys are for inner chest to isolate that part of the chest muscle , just as incline bench or dbs works the top of your chest, when i lost alot of body fat last year i could see the strations , in the middle of the pecs, and i do know that my chest was developed there because of doing flys.

Flyes are great for stretching the fascia too allow for greater growth especially with 30-60 static holds, as with DC stretches.

Flys are virtually worthless. If you're getting ready for a comp? Maybe they're alright. If you're a twiggy little kid, then leave them to someone who already has muscles because they surely won't grow any for you.
