Alright... I'm ready to try your witch doctor vodoo again..lol

Here's what i'm looking at. I'm going to buy an inversion table. I know a physical therapist who said I should look into decompression therapy. IE laying on an inversion table with my head at about 45 degree angle below my hips for about 20 minutes a day every day. He said not to hang completely upside down as this could cause my hips to come out of alignment and cause more muscle spasms in my lower back.

I'm pretty much having back pain every day and a few muscle spasms and it's now even getting sensative to the touch. I had some sciatica but that's gotten better. now it's pretty much just localized pain in the l-4 area.

Any other tips or tricks besides inversion therapy to try?

BTW, I've been going to a local bone cracker for two weeks (5 sessions) and I note no real improvement. He has a decompression machine but he's been trying to keep me off of it. He just keeps popping me and commenting how my L5 is out of alignment then he'll push on me.. hurt me and then he'll say.. Ahh.. that L5 popped back out nicely.. Then later that night it starts hurting again.

I hate lower back pain.

how did your xrays look?

The inversion table would probably give you some relief but with your powerlifting i really doubt it will do anything but prolong the inevitable which is chronic LBP.

First thing you need to find out is if you have healthy discs or not. If it is a bulging disc then I really don't see much improving it while you continue lifting heavy. If it really is just muscle spasms that will be great

Have you been hitting your abs hard? I assume you have strong abs. If not then make that a priority. That will take some stress off your Low Back. Losing weight also obviously takes a lot of stress off.
make sure you aren't to sedentary during day. the discs only get nourished with movement.
I like using the swiss ball and rolling back on it(to stretch LB)as well as sitting on it and hip thrusting??? to nourish the discs.

Pretty much sitting on it and humping the air back and forth lol.

That all will help with muscle spasms. Of course I love muscle stim. I have a low volt muscle stim that was one of the best things i have ever boughten. It was 400 dollars IIRC but it has been a life saver for a couple of my hamstring injuries as well as occasion back use

if u get relief from the adjustments but it starts hurting again later that day then I would suggest walking 15 minutes or so right after the adjustment. If u have muscle spasms then they will try pulling u out right after you get worked on.

With a big guy like you I would lay on moist heat for 10-20 minutes prior to getting worked on(even better with the muscle stim) then work on you and have you walk.

Wish you were closer b/c i would work you over and at least know if it is a good case for chiro or not. so u aren't wasting your money.

I know this is long jumbled response but bottom line is i would really like to see xray results and even MRI would be better. be easier to say if u are wasting time and money.

I know there is a company here that I can refer patients and they just charge it as an office visit so patients only have to pay office copay for MRI rather than the normal %. You might want to consider that. I can give u their info if u want and they might have facility in your area/???

He said I have degenerative disc disease.. I have some xrays I can try and scan them in and post the pics...

I felt pretty good today and after talking with MU in another thread I decided to deadlift heavy tonight to see what I could pull. I pulled 675lbs tonight without anything but a belt (which is pretty damn good for me and was actually a raw Deadlift PR for me).

My back actually feels pretty good right now while I'm sitting here typing this.

WRT to weight... If I don't do well at Nationals this year I'm going to dedicate myself to cutting a bunch of weight off. I'm going to take the quasi route and try to get down to about 235-240lbs... and see how I feel.

you will love it. I dropped 20 pounds just b/c the knees have been screaming at me at softball tourneys etc(last year) and hunting season. I feel great. I am gonna drop 5-10 more pounds and stay there. I worked my ass off to stay over 200 pounds and now i wish i had never done it lol! Sucks being short though

glad to hear it is feeling better. If it was a bulging disc u need to still be careful for a couple of weeks b/c it can still be bulging w/o putting pressure on a nerve.

hey bud been putting more thought into this and more i think the more i feel you would be wasting some money and possibly causing another health risk

IIRC you have some BP problems and lying inverted can really stress the heart. I think you would be thrilled with dropping 50 pounds. Timing would be great if you move so you could get new w/o partners who wouldn't even know u weren't lifting what you used to(if that is a concern. it shouldnt be)
