attempted cardio today.

ok...i want to lose alittle around the mid section. i `tried` some cardio today. i never do any.i`m not really a big guy so i never thought it necesary.
i ended up only doing 20mins on this eliptical thing. i really wasn`t out of breath. it was more of my legs felt like they were getting a work out. i plan on continueing and progressing longer.
i did it before my work-out. is that ok?

absolutely okay bro, this is my preferred method. cardio before your resistance training will warm up the body real good and help prevent injury...don't forget to stretch all muscle groups after for a complete workout.

p.s. the 25 min mark is about the magic number for starting to burn more fat then carbs, so to burn some fat i like to get 40-60 min of cardio atleast 3 times a week....5 days is better.

after is my preferred method...warm up for 10 minutes lift...save all the glycogen for your lifting session, and then go into fat burning mode taking in some bcaas before the cardio. 30 minutes on a good pace on a treadmill does it, walking backwards and forwards. There is a formula for best heart rate for fat burning, but I can't find it.
For aerobics I do it exclusively with no lifting, 60 minutes, treadmill, power glide, hand bike, or elliptical trainer....bust ass.

D-Red, my guess is you're just using your muscles in a different way than you are used to. i think in a couple weeks after tapping the muscle fibers in this way you'll adjust....especially if you are doing supplements that help us recooperate at a faster rate right now :)

p.s. hey bro, i think one should absolutely do different machines for the cardio.

Maybe try a recumbent style bike (the reclined back kind), so if your legs get tired quickly at the beginning, your not going to fall down- could do this until your legs get used to the stimulus as Juaneye mentioned.

if you are trying to loose some lbs. Try 30 minutes first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I prefer the treadclimber 30 minutes gets me about 620 calories. i keep it at manual settings and at a speed between 3.0 and 4.0 at the end. Then I do my workout. At night I do another 30 minutes. Thats my precontest cardio workout for 12 weeks. I normally loose around 40 lbs during the 12 weeks. Im 6'1 bulked weight around 275 lbs. competetion wt around 225-230.

That's about right for contest...however, I don't think D-Red is that heave where he should shed that much weight. I would stick to this plan, my good friends ussc said:

A body is built in the kitchen, not in the gym

Try watching what you are eating mang...and everything should be fine :) Cardio - 4-5 times a week - 30-40mins :D
