What is Phenylethylamine HCL?

Before understanding what phenylethylamine hydrochloride is, we have to understand the basics of its origin, which is Phenylethylamine itself or simply known as phenethylamine. If you try to search the internet you will find out more complicated definitions of what it is. But to simplify and put it in words we could readily understand phenylethylamine is a drug which has psychoactive properties. This property gives the drug the ability to stimulate your central nervous system (the brain) into action. Its effects are so pleasurable that this drug is often associated with drug abuse. It is often used as a component for antidepressants.

Phenylethylamine is under a specific type of alkaloid. Alkaloids in turn are basic in nature. By virtue of nature and chemistry when a basic liquid substance is "hit" or treated with acid, both liquids will undergo what we call the process of crystallization. This is how we understand why phenylethylamine hydrochloride is the salt product of phenylethylamine treated with hydrochloric acid.

Phenylethylamine hydrochloride however is not at all different from its original form in terms of its effect on the activities of the human brain. It is still the same only that it is in its solid form. Being in such form enables pharmaceutical companies to market the drug providing a variety of choices. However, orally ingested phenylethylamine hydrochloride poses one problem; it does not take effect when it is not taken in levels or concentrations significant enough for it to reach and affect the brain.

Phenylethylamine hydrochloride works by increasing dopamine levels and simultaneously inhibits the action of dopamine transmitters. This allows dopamine to build up in the brain and inhibits it from being transported outside. Being trapped inside the brain, it then works its miracles on your brain's cognition, focus, mood, motivation and many more. However, people who will take this should make sure to consult his/her physician first as taking it beyond recommended levels can impair brain function and could be very dangerous.

An interesting thought about your phenylethylamine is that it is found in chocolates. This is the reason is why chocolates are never ever given to schizophrenic patients. The phenylethylamine content in chocolates are so high that it can raise dopamine levels inside the brain. Take note that in schizophrenia, there is an excessive amount of dopamine. A bar of chocolate for these people is like taking a high dose of bad medicine.

In conclusion Phenylethylamine hydrochloride should be taken with caution. The conditions associated with it are not something that can be self diagnosed. The brain is an extremely dangerous thing for you to second guess what is wrong with it. Phenylethylamine on the other hand is an extremely potent drug to be played around. Always, and I say always be on the safe side of consulting your physician about it.
