Genetics

Do you guys believe in genetics stopping your body from a certain point?

Thinking...

- I've been a thick guy my whole life, fat for most of my child hood, got into competitor sports, dropped weight then got into lifting and have fell in love. BUT- I still have never been able to be THAT guy .. You know, muscles bulging, biceps showing without flexing, abs .. Etc. but I am in shape, just thick.

Any of yo have something similar, doesn't have to be like mine, but maybe you have your chest not growing , or legs won't get bigger no matter how hard you train and how much you add ABS?

I definitely believe genetics play a large role. Not just family genetics, but I see differences in ethnicity as well. I work at a gym, and I swear every Asian guy that walks in has huge calves, even if he is 110 pounds. Most of the black guys in there have shitty calves, and white guys are all over.

Personally, I've always had big traps, I don't even train them directly. They just grow from indirect stimulation.

I think strength comes into play with genetics as well. I have some decent muscle mass, but I am not as strong as I think I should be. I see many smaller guys lifting as much or more weight as I do. And it's always been that way.

I've had a six pack since I was 13, so yeah that's genetic. You have to consider metabolism types too, everyone has different sensitivity to insulin (we're talking non-pathological here), t3/t4, androgens etc. These hormones (except for insulin) work directly through gene expression at the level of the nucleus of all somatic cells (at least ones with the appropriate receptors).

Which means androgens and training will cause you to express whatever you have in your genome to a more pronounced degree, and naught else.

Absolutely man. I'm 6'1 and could drop down to 160 lbs in a month without even trying or really starving myself. Your body wants to be a curtains way. Steroids over come this to a point, but there is just no way a guy like me is ever getting up to 240. And even if I did, I would have to practically poison myself with AAS and food and I would probably struggle to not lose a few lbs a day.
