Fitness Fag?

well folks, i have sustained a shoulder injury and today my PT gave me some awesome news. seems i have an ac problem with my right shoulder and the old bone on bone clicking ain't good i take it. my overhead lifting days have come to an apparent end, and i have been advised to lighten up on the weights again. i left this morning after my session at the PT's shop not feeling too bad, but when the MRI place called and said my doc sent over my info and was i ready to make an appointment...i said huh? and they responded haven't you seen Dr. -------, to which i responded "not yet this week, my appt is wednesday" they said, oh, sorry we'll be in touch later this week. i'm not to smart, but i'm thinking this is not a good sign. this all started in june when i first went back to work after knee surgery, i felt a tear in my rotator and reported it, but i just kept working until i did it again a week or so ago when we had a bad storm with lots of wind and that is when i re-inflamed this issue and had to seek medical help.
i guess my weight lifting days are numbered, and i will have to be a "fitness fag" i'm a little more then a little pissed off about this situation!!!!!

i go see the doc again tomorrow, and see what he says. i am in a lot of discomfort from this issue...more then i like to admint.

my wife is always hinting about that in her oh so non-subtle way...something about how people think muscle heads are dipshits..or something to that affect.

nothing wrong with a 12 pound dumbells and tension cord if you can keep a tight abdomen....

Layoff those joints for year, give them time to heal...hopefully, you'll bounce right back...

All Done

Well I was at the PT's office yesterday and he had the results of the MRI sent over. I know a lot of you guys could understand the medical terms...but in short, my shoulder is destroyed. I will be having major reconstructive surgery according to him, and my weight lifting days are done. I will be on the shelf for four months at least according to the PT, and might not be able to work again. I will see the doctor tomorrow, and get the final word. The PT told me of the local surgeon he thinks does the best shoulder work, so that is who I will request.

Peace Guys

Maybe try Crossfit. Much lighter weights, severely brutal workouts.

This brings back some not so great memories. I had my first surgery on my right shoulder when I graduated HS before college baseball. That was for a rotator cuff tear, so came back pretty easy. Wasn't until several years later that I dislocated the same shoulder. After about 5 dislocations the doc said surgery is only choice, major shoulder reconstruction surgery at that. Six months out of the game and would have to carry a cooler around with ice water in it flowing up to my shoulder for 6 weeks. I rehabbed my ass off and after 4 months was feeling pretty good and 6 months was back to the gym full force. I think how much you put into rehab determines what will happen after it is healed. now it is stronger than ever and no problems in the last six years. Stay optimistic and your background in lifting will help big time in your recovery.

yeah, no doubt that will be my only option i am afraid. i will work allot of negatives, slow count on reps with pretty light weights. i am considering yoga to replace my intense weight sessions (talk about a 180 huh?), and maybe further my Tai Chi studies. i wouldn't mind learning a long form of Tai Chi, and learn weapons...i'll probably need a cane in 10-15 years anyway, i just as well learn to use it in defensive mode.
i have been referred to the ortho my PT said does the best shoulder work in my area, and i am just waiting to hear from his office to set a surgery date.

Thanks for the pep talk man. I have not been on the shelf for 24 years, that was a major change in my life, I refer to it in my mind as being reborn. I woke up in the hospital as a physically challenged person, this time will not be that hard for sure. The big difference this time is I have to push an old body to come back, but my wife reminded me I have over come worse challenges and she too kicked me in the ass and told me if anyone can come back strong and a better person...I can!!

Outlook is everything! With that attitude you will be just fine. I also looked at it like a challenge and didn't want it to beat me. Good luck with it all!!
